The easiest habit for me out of the 7 1/2 Habits of Lifelong Learners is to begin with the end in mind. I am a big dreamer, and my imagination is very active. It helps me to look ahead and see what I want out of an experience. The journey is more fun when you've got a flexible yet reliable destination.
The hardest habit for me out of the 7 1/2 is definitely the last habit: play. I'm a serious person. I love to play, but when it's time to be serious, I'm as dull as they come. Having responsibilities and expectations make D. a dull girl.
I think that it is good to identify the issues that are the most difficult for oneself. Knowing that you have to work harder at that particular thing could help you focus on it enough so you can overcome it.
I believe that being an educator that we are always thought of as being "very serious people", but we don't have to be all the time. I strongly believe that there is a time to work and a time to play. I also believe that it will be imperative as future educators that our students feel comfortable enough around us to open up to us. Sometimes we have to get on our students level in order for us to understand them and for them to understand us. I feel that there should definitely be boundaries where they understand the teacher vs. student, but its ok to let your hair down and have fun. Remember that children learn by play, so it will be key to find fun ways to teach and reach each of their individual learning styles.
ReplyDeleteI can totally relate to your easy/hard habits. I believe begin with the end in mind is easy because there are many roads to travel that lead to the same destination. I tend to be a very serious person and I like to be in control, so play is hard for me as well. I believe each easy/hard habit can be broken/created and these habits can be our weakness/strengths depending on how we teach.
